If Skype only works with mobile data and not with Wi-Fi, you should check that your modem is working. You can also try using another app with Wi-Fi to see if the problem is Skype only or applies to everyone. If it’s only Skype, try the other troubleshooting methods below.
The first thing to do, restart the phone
A simple action such as restarting your smartphone could solve any problem with your device or its app. Hold the power button and select Restart. Start Skype and check if it is now working properly.
Force close the app
Closing Skype may help resolve any issues that prevent the app from opening or functioning properly. To do this, launch the phone’s Settings menu and go to “Apps and notifications”> App information> Skype and tap the Force stop icon. Touch OK to proceed.
Now restart the app and check if it works now. If not, try the next solution.
Clear the cache if Skype isn’t working on your Android phone
The amount of temporary (redundant) files that the Skype app has accumulated over time may not make it work properly. Clearing these temporary files (also called Caches) could help put things back in order. This does not delete the app data (passwords, saved files, etc.) but only updates the app.
